If you’ve just completed the NDIS planning process, you must now be able to create at least an NDIS plan. The plan will contain information about yourself, what you want, who provides you with informal support and what kind of support you’ve got for each support category (core supports capacities building, core supports and capital support) to enable you to access services for disabled people.

Now is the time to pick the companies that will offer you support for your disability.

The most frequently asked queries we receive are the need to use NDIS-registered NDIS providers to provide your support and services and the advantages of having these providers.

What exactly is what is an NDIS provider?

NDIS providers are organizations and individuals that offer the services to aid you in reaching your objectives. They can be large corporations or charities, small non-profits and sole traders, or any other business.

They can provide everything from support and management of plan coordination to home assistance, community nursing, therapy, social assistance, and house or car changes. It’s important to remember that even if providers aren’t registered, they still need to be more competent. They might need more resources or time to apply for the process of NDIS registration.

What are the advantages of using an NDIS provider?

NDIS-certified providers have submitted applications with the NDIA and have complied with their strict safety and quality requirements to obtain accreditation.

To be registered as an NDIS provider, these organizations must apply for registration with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission). They must conduct an audit by NDIS Practice Standards. NDIS Practice Standards must adhere to the NDIS Code of Conduct. NDIS code of conduct and assist their employees in complying with its standards.

The NDIS will conduct an assessment of the company. After they’ve decided, the organization will be required to satisfy the requirements for registration and receive the Certificate of Registration.

To be approved, it must:

  • There is an internal complaint management and resolution system. We assist participants in having to submit a complaint.
  • In-house incident management system, and notify an NDIS Commission of reportable incidents,
  • Ensure that all employees are screened using a new national screening process for workers,
  • Meet the new requirements for behaviour support (if applicable) and report any restrictive behaviours to NDIS Commission.

If the NDIS has approved them, you can be confident that they’ve met the highest standard of service and safety.

Do you need to use the registered NDIS providers?

If you have an unregistered provider, consider using these providers. Most of the time, you’ll still be able to utilize your NDIS funding to cover the services, but it depends on how you handle your plans. There are three ways that you can manage your NDIS funds.

  1. Self-managed means that you manage an individual NDIS plan. If you’re self-managed, you can choose to use non-registered NDIS providers. You’ll pay for the service and then claim the money returned to your NDIS plan.
  2. Plan-managed means an outside provider, also known as Plan Management. Plan Managers can assist you in monitoring your finances, paying for the services provided, and sending you regular budget updates. Plan management offers more choices for services, as they don’t need to be registered providers.
  3. NDIA controlled — They often call this Agency funded, which means that the NDIS manages your finances on your behalf. If it’s NDIA-managed, you’re not able to make use of unregistered providers.
